Placebo Paint ©
2001 / 2004
“We place architecture at the lowest level of the world, among matter and gravity; subject to climate variations and to the passage of time; caught up in physical, chemical, biological, and electromagnetic relations with the environment and with our bodies. An architecture of immanence, which accepts its material rank, its interdependence on outside conditions as a modality.”
On the first floor of 49 Nord 6 Est, the industrial paint which covers the walls and the ceiling of the exhibition halls and passageways contains an infinitesimal dose of ginger; on the second——an orange flower solution. The Placebo Paint © does not have a distinctive color or smell. It qualifies simply (?) and psychologically the spaces beyond any visual or plastic representation. Whether conscious or not of the presence of endorphins in their environment, the visitors cannot physically avoid them: the first floor is charged erotically; the second is relaxing. Are you sure this is merely a question of faith or intellectual disposition?
