A group of vagrant teenagers, who grew up in the Johannesburg slums, mugs a man on the metro. The gang leader, nicknamed Tsotsi (thug), stabs him in cold blood for no reason. His accomplices rebel against that brutal attack, and the gang breaks up.
Without a name, without past, without ambition, filled with anger and violence, Tsotsi lives entirely in the present. The discovery of an infant in the back seat of a car he had just stolen is going to guide him towards his own lost humanity…
