The German artist of Polish origin, Monika Grzymala, creates what she calls “architectural interventions.” They are ephemeral installations scaled to fit the space in which they are displayed. Grzymala’s preferred medium is scotch tape (or rather a variety of scotch tapes insofar as she knows and manipulates their various shades, textures, and sizes). She also skillfully handles magnetic tape and paper in all its forms (from confetti to washi – Japanese paper which she makes herself).
Each of her installations is in reality a drawing deployed in space, spreading its sober or undulating lines in conquest of the walls and of architecture, creating a vibrant, bubbling tracework.
