Richard Deacon is a Welsh artist (b. 1949) who is considered to be one of the leading sculptors working today. From the early 1980s, he attracted attention to the new English sculpture scene as someone with an innovative approach to materials such as paper, resin, plastic, glass, leather and fabric. He refers to himself as a “fabricator”. His sculptures hide none of the technical processes involved in their realisation. They show ample traces of assembly, riveting, twisting, elongating, folding and binding.

The exhibition “The Missing Part“ is co-produced in partnership with the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of the city of Strasbourg.

It has been conceived in close co-operation with Richard Deacon and is the first retrospective delving into the artist’s 40 years of art-making. The exhibition is comprised of 40 sculptures as well as approximately 120 drawings, prints and photographs.
