What if the beautiful didn’t exist, what if the beautiful had no foothold in reality, what if the beautiful had nothing universal? Against the grain of the commonplace, this exhibition tries to draw a few reflections around the unscientific notion of the beautiful. Fashions and customs seem to shape our rather restrictive views on the body as well as on the landscape.
If the beautiful were associated with youth, the elderly would have to right to any bodily desire (Nixon, Coplans); and if the beautiful is synonymous with harmony, then it is a question of norm: that of the size of bodies (Ferrer) as well as dimensions of landscapes (Leisgen). Rather, let your eye wander free and without prejudice, because « the beautiful is in the attention we pay to it » S. Weil
